The Wingham Blending Board is simple, quick and effective way of making your own fibre blends at home.
Comes as a complete kit to get you going.
Adjustable to get the best angle for blending and carding.
We have designed this board to have all the fittings needed to get the best out of blending and carding. The inclusion of the ability to use table clamps and the adjustability of the angle make it a versatile piece of kit.
At the rear of the board you'll find a supporting brace (keel) that can be fixed in three different positions, adjusting the working angle that the board sits at when table mounted.
It can be rotated by 90 degrees to give a keel that can be gripped by the knees and used whilst sitting, useful if a table of bench to clamp on is not available.
For storage it can be removed completely
Two clamps are supplied to keep everything sturdy and in place when working on a table top, giving a stable working platform to create your blend.
The carding area covers 30cm x 30cm and is made of the same specification card cloth that we use for our Wingham Hand Carders. This 72 PPI cloth is suitable for most wool types that you'll be using, though if you aren't sure if it's right for what you intend on using then feel free to contact us for advice
To blend fibres
Place your mix of fibres onto the board and with the reverse carder provided brush the fibre down into the wire. Continue layering fibre onto the wire until a good covering is made. Dont overdo it as the resulting batt can be too thick.
Take the two dowel sticks together and trap the bottom fringe of fibre between them. Begin rolling creating a tube of fibre, until you get to the top. Its a lift and roll action. When finished the dowels will slide cleanly out of the fibre creating a rolag
If you are making a felting batt simply load up the carder wire brush down with the reversed carder and then by running a knitting needle through the wire it will lift off in one sheet.
Carding fibres
It can also function as a carding board if used along with a full size hand carder. Simply place washed fleece fibres to be carded onto the board and use a full sized hand carder to card with. When fully carded use the dowel rolag sticks to remove the fibre from the board as with the instructions above.

Set the board up, load it with washed fibre as you would a handcarder. Card the fibre with a full sized hand carder. To take the fibre off use the pair of dowels to roll into rolags. We suggest if carding fleece you load it with less than you would for blending. For good carding results less is better to make lightweight rolags.
