Mordant - Soda Ash

Soda Ash (sodium carbonate) is an essential dyeing auxiliary used to fix reactive dyes to fibre, it creates the alkaline conditions needed for the dye to bond permanently with the fibre.

When added to the dye bath, soda ash raises the pH, allowing reactive dyes to chemically attach to cellulose fibres such as cotton, linen and rayon. Without it, colour fixation will be significantly reduced, resulting in weaker shades and poor wash fastness. This high-quality soda ash provides consistent and reliable results, making it a staple for both professional dye studios and home dyers. It is typically used at around 5–10g per litre in dye baths for Procion MX dyes, depending on the depth of shade required.
