Manx Loaghtan (also referred to as Manx Loughton) is a heritage British wool breed hailing from the Isle of Man, renowned for its rich mouse‑brown tone and charming multi-horned sheep. This combed wool top offers medium softness with durability and excellent structure—ideal for spinners, felters, and fibre artists seeking natural warmth and visual interest in their projects.

Features

Fibre Diameter: Approximately 30–31.5 microns — a medium fleece that's soft enough for comfort but strong enough for robust projects
Staple Length: Around 6–12 cm (2.4–4.7 in), combed into a top that is easy to draft and reliable to spin
Texture: Moderately dense with a touch of spring, lending itself well to woolen or worsted spinning
Colour: Mouse‑brown (moorit)—a rich, earthy tone that evokes natural woodland warmth

Ideal For: Spinning hearty yarns, weaving durable garments, felting warm accessories, and enhancing natural-dye projects

Manx Loaghtan spins into warm, bouncy yarns with good durability and a soft shine—striking a balance between comfort and ruggedness. Its natural brown hue works beautifully in undyed projects or as a contrasting tone in blends and colourwork.

Lovely wool, I spin and like to try different breeds. This one is lovely and I know I always get top quality from Wingham wool.
