The Wingham Mini Combs are built to the same high standards and specifications as the full-size Wingham combs, just in a smaller, lighter format. They are an excellent choice if you don’t need to process large quantities of fibre, or if you prefer a lighter comb that’s easier to handle for longer sessions or finer work.

The distinctive A-frame base allows one comb to be fixed securely in two positions: vertically for an up-and-down combing action, or horizontally for side-to-side combing. Having the option to switch between these positions can make fibre preparation more comfortable and efficient, depending on your working style.

The tines are set at a slight angle, allowing the handheld comb to meet the fixed comb with flat faces and a more natural swing. This thoughtful design helps improve fibre transfer and reduces strain during use.

Each set includes a tine straightener, helping minimise the need for costly repairs if a tine is bent. While it may rarely be needed, having it to hand means bent tines can be easily corrected when required.

Features:

  • Compact version of the Wingham English combs
  • Ideal for smaller quantities of fibre and lighter handling
  • A-frame base allows vertical or horizontal combing positions
  • Angled tine setting for natural combing action
  • Includes tine straightener for easy maintenance
  • Three hole-size diz included

Technical Specifications:

  • Sustainably sourced European beech
  • Sealed varnish finish
  • Hardened and tempered 3 mm precision double-point ground carbon tool-grade steel tines
  • Tine length: 10 cm
  • Tine working width: 7.6 cm (3″)
  • Base unit size: 20 cm × 15 cm
  • Total height: 17 cm
  • Approximate comb weight: 235 g

Care:
After use, ensure the combs are completely dry. If they will not be used for a while, spray lightly with WD-40 or a similar product, holding the combs with the tines pointing down to allow excess to run off. Store in a dry place. The hardened carbon steel tines are not rust-proof, so careful storage is important.

well made

I bought these combs to replace ones I had previously bought from a well known company that had the tines set in plastic within a wood frame, needless to say those combs broke within weeks of using them. However, these combs from Winghamwoolwork are strong and beautifully crafted. Needless to say I’m thrilled with this purchase just mad I didn’t find them sooner!

Rather wonderful

I had tried to make a pair of combs, they worked a little with lots of injuries! Then my husband took pity on me and bought me this set of beautiful combs. This upped game so much. They are beautifully made, really strong and lovely to use . They arrived packaged well with some fibre to use and I love them.

fantastic quality

Working with the right equipment is so much more enjoyable - these combs make combing a breeze. I regret not having gone for these sooner (I struggled with cheaper but not so cheap, but rather dreadful to use combs and hackles). Great quality, sturdy but not heavy and comfortable to handle, and they look beautiful, too. The come with a tine straightener, though I doubt I'll ever need it, as I've stressed tested these combs with slightly felted, long wool fibres and these do not budge! The base is also beautiful and sturdy. Great purchase, and great service too, for they arrived quickly and most perfectly packed. Bought a while back, but waited to have used them for a bit before posting a review.

Wingham Small English Woolcombs

Thank you for the wool combs which I bought as a Christmas present for my wife. She is very happy with them and is working her way through 3 hebridean fleeces which were a kind gift from a colleague. I placed the order on the 14th December and the wool combs arrived in plenty of time for Christmas

Excellent quality

My husband has bought this for my Christmas present. I am delighted with the quality and design. I have RA and found these are the perfect size and weight for my hands. We contacted Wingham Wool works re : when to expect delivery as the confirmation e mail went astray. We were e mailed immediately by Tom who was able to tell us the order had gone through and it did indeed arrive really quickly. I was also delighted with the gorgeous fluff that was used to stuff the box around the combs. I will look forward to spinning it. Thank you do much.

Superb Wingham small English Woolcombs

As a new spinner on the journey of the Spinners Foundation course (uK) I needed a set of wool combs. After a lot of research I decided that Peter Teals method of woolcombing was the way forward. I was shocked at the prices of other woolcombs on the market, they didnt have stands either. Then I found Wingham Wool. They have made some adaptations to Peter Teals combs (with his consent), they are sturdy, double tines and come with a stand and very much cheaper. There were none in stock but Wingham wool went out of their way to source me a pair within a week. The service was excellent. I am so pleased with this brilliant efficient and effective pair of wool combs. Dont hesitate in buying a pair, youll be very happy!
