Whitefaced Woodland (also known as Penistone) is a heritage British hill breed originating in the South Pennines of England. Celebrated for its soft hand relative to other upland wools, this fibre is prized by spinners and felters alike.

Features

Fibre diameter: approximately 28–38 microns (coarse to firm) 
Staple length: 10–20 cm (4–8 inches)
Texture: resilient, crimpy lengthwell locks with occasional kemp, adding rustic definition
Colour: bright white, suitable for dyeing yet softly characterful
Ideal for: hardwearing outerwear, rugs, sturdy textured yarns, resilient felting

Whitefaced Woodland wool spins into durable, textured yarn with excellent shape retention and natural loft. It felts readily, making it ideal for projects requiring structure, while its occasional kemp contributes a tweedy effect and visual depth.

The company was relocating to Gloucestershire and so not unexpectedly there was a small delay in despatch of fibre. Good prices for my choice and ready to continue practising my spinning. Disappointed that big-ticket items like the spinning wheels etc are not available via Clearpay, which makes larger purchases accessible.
