Silks

Top quality silk is one of the most luxurious fibres, making it perfect for garments, as it is soft next to the skin. Silk comes in many different forms however, and you may find some of the less processed silks ideal for craft projects, particularly papermaking. If you are not sure about any of the silks please order a sample pack.

Carrier Rods

This is a by-product from the production of silk. Tubes of silk fibre slit down the side, still containing gum. Great in paper making as layers can be peeled off

Recycled Sari Silk.

Twisted short lengths of fine thread to make a yarn.

Each hank is multi colour, predominantly rich Indian jewel shades – reds, purples, greens etc combinations.  Colours vary from hank to hank.

Cocoon Strippings

Gummed fibres stripped from the cocoons, still gummy.

Degummed Silk Cocoons, pure white.

As the cocoon is collapsed in the degumming process some fibres are loosened & hold the cocoons together.  They look like fluffy balls and are easily teased out.  It is possible with care to spin from a handful and they are suitable for silk paper and felt making.
